The Oyster River Fire Department is investigating a semi-trailer fire in Black Creek on Saturday.
According to Fire Chief Bruce Green, they got a call about the fire at 8:00 p.m., where the hay stored inside the semi-trailer ignited the fire.
He says the semi-trailer was 30 feet long and had 250 hay bales when the fire erupted.
“When we arrived on scene, the whole back of the trailer was fully engulfed,” said Green.
“The crew did a great job of putting water on the fire very quickly and knock it down, but unfortunately because hay is highly combustible, we had to empty out the whole trailer which took us about 2 and a half hours.”
Green says while the fire spread out a little bit, the firefighters were able to stop it. No residents or firefighters were injured from the fire.
He says they are still investigating the incident, adding that with a hay fire, it’s hard to pinpoint where the fire was.
He encourages people to be very diligent when going outside and to report a fire right away as soon as they see one.
