A local commercial car wash went up in flames this morning in Courtenay.
At around 6 a.m. on August 21, fire crews were called to the area of reports of smoke coming from a building.
Deputy Fire Chief Jonathan Welsh said crews arrived on scene to find Charlie’s Auto Wash engulfed in flames.
“There is heavy damage to the building and there’s multiple businesses attached there so definitely both businesses are going to be affected.”
The neighbouring Value Village building was ‘close call’ according to Welsh, but crews prevented the flames from reaching the property.
One vehicle appeared to be damaged in the fire, but no injuries are reported.
Courtenay Fire Department and Comox Valley RCMP are working together to determine the cause of the fire.
