The CVRD is reminding residents to be prepared for ‘The Big One’ after a string of recent earthquakes off Vancouver Islands West Coast.
The Comox Valley Emergency Management Service reminds people to expect the unexpected when it comes to tremors.
Seismologist for Natural Resouces Canada Alison Bird said residents should have preparations for a potential earthquake.
“These offshore swarms are quite normal and happen every year or so and should not be of concern to Comox Valley residents. They are however a reminder that this is ‘earthquake country’ and people should take measures to prepare.”
Numerous earthquakes around 200 kilometers west of Port Alice have been reported in recent weeks with the largest being a 6.4 magnitude quake which was reported to be felt by Earthquakes Canada.
None of the recent small earthquakes are expected to cause a larger tremor or a tsunami though.
The CVRD is reminding residents to be prepared by having enough food and water available for at least 72 hours, have an emergency kit, and to have an emergency plan for your family and pets.
