CVRD buys seniors hall to continue use in Fanny Bay

A community facility for seniors will still run, thanks to a purchase by the Comox Valley Regional District.

The district says they bought the Fanny Bay Seniors Society Hall, located on 418 Ships Point Road, to not only continue its operations but to also enable future service opportunities. The hall focuses on keeping their seniors active through potlucks, trips, picnics, and social gatherings.

The purchase is being funded by the district’s Baynes Sound Community Facilities Support Service and the Fanny Bay Senior Society.

Electoral Area A director Daniel Arbour says this comes after the community put together a fundraiser and reached out to the district to buy the property.

“There is a lack of publicly owned lands in the southern portion of the Comox Valley, and the property is in a key location at the corner of Ships Point Road and Highway 19A,” said Arbour.

“I am excited about current and future possibilities for this land and Fanny Bay residents.”

$47,000 was fundraised for the purchase, according to the district.

They say the hall will be run by the Fanny Bay Senior Society, with President Joan Johnsen saying they are looking forward to partnering with them on the hall.
