Nanaimo woman guilty of second-degree murder, dismembering her boyfriend

A Nanaimo woman has been found guilty of killing her boyfriend, dismembering him, and disposing of his body parts in lakes, public toilets, and ocean sites around the Island.

Justice Robin Baird gave the verdict in BC Supreme Court on Friday, in Vancouver.

He said there was never any doubt that Paris Laroche killed Sydney Mantee on March 5, 2020, and disposed of his remains over the next year, which she stored in a freezer.

Laroche was originally charged with first-degree murder. CHEK News reports Baird wasn’t convinced the murder was planned, finding her guilty of second-degree murder instead.

He rejected her claims of self-defence, pointing out Mantee was asleep when she killed him with a hammer and slit his throat.

Sentencing will be on July 24.
