Two environmental protesters caught a break yesterday because of the global IT outage.
Extinction Rebellion Vancouver Island co-founder Howard Breen and Melanie Murray have both pleaded guilty to multiple accounts of mischief.
The charges relate to their roles in highway blockades in 2022. Breen also glued himself to a log boom in the Port of Nanaimo, painted messages on the tarmac at the Nanaimo airport, and glued the doors shut at a Royal Bank branch.
Bob Mackin with The Breaker reports Provincial Court Judge Ronald Lamperson was scheduled to hear a joint submission from the prosecutor and defence lawyer on Friday in Nanaimo but t he hearing was postponed because Crown lawyer Neal Bennet had a medical appointment impacted by the global Internet outage.
A new hearing date will be determined.
