Cumberland Lake Park to install webcams, implement boat launch staff to improve operations

The Village of Cumberland is looking to enhance people’s experience visiting Cumberland Lake Park.

In collaboration with the Lake Park Society, the Village announced webcams are installed to check parking lot conditions and full-time staff will be available at the boat launch area.

Cumberland Mayor Vickey Brown said while the park is a place everyone loves, the area geography restricts the enjoyment and hopes these installations will improve it.

“We hope these new services in the parking areas will help improve safety, reduce traffic congestion, and make it easier for all Comox Valley residents to plan their visit for a better experience for everyone visiting the lake.”

Current conditions for the main parking lot and the boat launch are now available on the Cumberland Lake Park’s website.

Staff will attend the boat launch full-time to ensure fees are paid for launch passes and help manage its availability.

Launch users who fail to purchase passes and have received two or more tickets can now have their vehicle towed.

Staff on hand can also close the boat launch if there’s inadequate parking space to avoid congestion and ensure better safety.
