A multi-use pathway in Comox is being upgraded.
The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), Town of Comox, Federal Government, and Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure (MOTI) announced upgrade work on the Lazo Greenway Multi-Use Path have begun.
Comox Mayor Nicole Minions said the trail will help connect neighbourhoods more and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
“This project also provides a valuable opportunity to enhance our greenways by removing invasive species and replanting with native vegetation, supporting local wildlife and ecosystems.”
The path will extend from Butchers Road to Sand Pines Drive helping people connect to MacDonald Wood Park, Goose Spit, Lazo Marsh, and Point Holmes by either foot or bike.
The width of the path will vary to minimize environmental impacts and will have dedicated bike lanes along Lazo Road from Simba Road to Sand Pines.
A pedestrian crossing has additionally been installed at Sand Pines Drive to increase pedestrians’ safety.
Electoral Areas Services Committee Chair Edwin Grieve said the upgrades will happen at the same time as the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project.
“Accomplishing this project in line with the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project ensures this work is completed in a more efficient manner while addressing two needs at once.”
With both projects projected to interfere with each other, teams have been working on an overlap to reduce impacts to residents, avoid project delays, and find some savings.
