Comox Valley Emergency Management wants people to register for local emergency notifications.
Residents and visitors of Denman and Hornby Islands are encouraged to sign up online for the ‘Get Notified’ tool Connect Rocket, a free subscription-based service which allows governments to issue local emergency alerts.
Emergency Planning Coordinator Cari McIntyre said it’s a simple sign-up to help be better prepared for emergencies.
“Whether you’re a full time or part-time resident, or you’re like me and love to visit Denman and Hornby Islands, we encourage you to be prepared to look after yourself and your loved ones in any scenario.”
Registration can be done online at the CVRD’s website and enables notifications to be delivered to mobile and landline phones.
Anyone who needs help signing up can visit staff at the upcoming Blackberry Fair on Denman Island on September 1 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or the Hornby Island Fall Fair on September 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
