Perfect viewing conditions this weekend for Perseid meteor shower

The annual Perseid meteor shower is going on this weekend, and with clear skies in the forecast, it should be a perfect chance to see the show.

Every year around the same time, the Earth passes through the path of comet Swift-Tuttle, which leaves a trail of dust and gravel. When those particles enter the atmosphere, they create bright streaks across the sky.

The Canadian Space Agency says the meteor shower will hit its peak on August 12 and 13, when up to 80 meteors per hour can be seen.

The meteors appear to come from the Perseus constellation, which will be at its highest point right before dawn.
