Local wastewater management plan moves to final stage

A plan for wastewater management is entering the last stage in Cumberland this fall.

Called the Liquid Waste Management Plan, it aims to map out the next steps for the Wastewater Upgrade Project, while focusing on the important improvements to wastewater treatment lagoons. The plan has been around since 2016.

With stages 1 and 2 done, the Village says they’re moving to the final stage, which looks to wrap up the planning work of earlier stages.

This includes reporting to the community about the upcoming plan and finishing both the environmental impact study and the certificate process for wastewater management in the future.

Mayor Vickey Brown says upgrading wastewater treatment is a big goal for council.

“We are so excited to invite the public back to provide their feedback on the latest design as we complete stage 3 of the LWMP process,” said Brown.

They say for this stage, you can give your thoughts on the plan by going to one of two information sessions on September 26 in Council Chambers.

The first session runs from 4:45 and 5:45 p.m., while the second runs from 6:00 and 7:00 p.m.

Along with the sessions, you can also share comments about it online.
