Members of Oyster River Fire Rescue are investigating a house fire in Merville.
Deputy Chief Martyn Thomas says the structure fire early Friday morning was on Fitzgerald Road next to the river.
He says it was a challenging fire, with the Courtenay department providing support.
“We had three trucks worth plus two tenders going,” said Thomas. “And then Courtenay came with a truck and a tender, so about 25 firefighters.”
Thomas says after taking the fire down around midnight, they stayed until 5:00 a.m. to mop up the house, which was fully involved by the fire.
Thomas says no one was in the home at the time.
The house has become a total loss because of the fire, with firefighters still investigating what caused it.
He encourages you to have smoke alarms in your home.
