The draft of a local cultural plan will be presented to city council in Courtenay.
In a report to mayor and council, Director of Recreation, Culture, and Community Services Susie Saunders is presenting a draft of the Strategic Cultural Plan, a plan focusing on emphasizing the importance of art and cultural services in Courtenay.
Saunders says the plan would cover a 10-year horizon, with a vision, goals, and objectives to guide the City to a future where arts and culture are embedded in community life.
“Initiated in 2023, the Strategic Cultural Plan is a 2023-2026 Strategic Priority that is supported by several City policy and background documents: Cultural Services Review, Parks and Recreation Master Plan, and Official Community Plan,” said Saunders.
She also says the draft has 5 goals, which include advancing truth and reconciliation through arts and culture, building community resilience, developing more accessible and affordable spaces, to boost community arts, and to support the development of the cultural sector.
She hopes council not only adopts the plan, but also has it be posted online for the community to give feedback about it for one month.
The draft will be presented in Courtenay’s council meeting this Wednesday, starting at 4:00 p.m.
