You can get free pizza for having working smoke alarm

As we get closer to Fire Prevention Week, you can get free pizza by having a working smoke alarm.

The City of Courtenay says for that week, which runs October 6 to 12, the Courtenay and Comox fire departments will give you free Domino’s Pizza for having a working smoke alarm. This project has been running for eight years, with the goal of keeping you safe and educated.

On Friday the 11, those living in single homes, duplexes, and townhouses can call Domino’s anytime between 5 and 9 p.m., with firefighters coming by to check your alarm with your permission.

They say if your alarm is working, the pizza is yours. If it needs new batteries, the firefighters will change them and may come back to install a new smoke alarm for free in case you don’t have one.

The city says for this Fire Week, the theme is Smoke Alarms: Make them work for you!, focusing on how important those alarms are and what’s needed to use them.

They encourage you to install them in every bedroom, in the hallways, and at every level of your home, to test them once a month, and to replace the batteries annually.
