WEEK IN REVIEW
The Comox Valley Glacier Kings had a strong week, starting off with a home victory against the Oceanside Generals with a score of 6-3 on Friday, September 20, followed by a 3-2 road win against the Kerry Park Islanders on Saturday, September 21.
The team then had a few days off before a rare Wednesday night game in Port Alberni against the Bombers dropping a close contest in overtime 4-3.
They finished the week with a record of 2-0-1-0, good for five out of a possible six points.
They enter this weekend’s action with a record of 3-1-2-0, sitting third place in the North Division with eight points.
FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 27 7:30 P.M. VS CAMPBELL RIVER STORM
The team kicks off this weekend’s action with a tough road matchup against the Campbell River Storm, who sit in second place in the North.
Head Coach Richard Kimber said he expects a tough contest against them, a team expected to be near the top of the standings all year.
“We know they’re a strong team this year, they are going to be a strong team all year, they’re very similar to Port Alberni in the upper echelon of our league so far.”
This will be the second contest between the two teams on the year, with the first being a 6-0 Storm victory in the Glacier Kings season and home opener.
Kimber knows the team cannot afford to perform like that again if they want to be successful.
“It taught us where we have to be and to take care of our own business, and if you play like that, that’s what the results are going to be.”
SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 28 7:45 P.M. VS WESTSHORE WOLVES
The tough schedule continues as the team will be back at the Comox Valley Sports Centre to face the Westshore Wolves.
The Wolves also have enjoyed a strong start to their season, winning five of their first seven games to jump out to a first-place lead in the South Division.
Kimber said these next few games provide an exciting challenge for the group to see how far they’ve come early on.
“In order to be the best you got to beat the best, so we are looking forward to the challenge these next games, obviously got to take it one game at a time but we are looking forward to seeing where we’re at.”
The Glacier Kings have a home record of 1-1-1-0 so far on the year, while being 2-0-1-0 on the road.
Kimber thinks it took the team some time to adjust with many players moving from out of town but hopes they can start to build a better home record for the fans to enjoy.
“I like the way we are playing right now we’re getting settled in, lot of kids from out of town getting settled in and making this place home so every game was a road game for a lot of the kids here.”
