The power was back on ahead of schedule today for nearly 8,000 homes on the North Island, after heavy storms knocked out the entire region.
From Woss to Port Hardy, the power was out for more than a day after strong winds and rain this week caused damage in multiple communities. The remnants of Typhoon Pulasan hit the North Island Thursday night and Friday, with some regions getting winds up to 100 kilometres per hour.
The Village of Zeballos was the hardest-hit by the storms. Nine spans of wire needed to be restrung. Crews had to access the remote region with a barge and helicopter.
By Sunday morning, however, major damage had been repaired, and there are no more outages reported on the North Island.
