Training camps for Dice Hockey board game starts this week

Training camps for a new tabletop board game will start this week in the Comox Valley.

Called Dice Hockey Challenge, it’s a sports-oriented game that allows you to be a coach, goaltender, offense, and defense, with hockey action cards included in the game. It was created in Courtenay by residents David Leverton and Anne Doyle.

While the game was first released in late spring this year, Leverton says it has spread out to other parts of Canada.

“The game can now be played in board game cafes from as far away as Whitehorse, Yukon; Thunder Bay, Ontario; and Halifax, Nova Scotia,” said Leverton.

He says they hope people can play this game for generations to come, with the game now in retail locations across BC, Alberta, Manitoba, and the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto.

They plan on starting training camps for four Dice Hockey Leagues in the Valley, with the goal of starting a 55-plus League at the Evergreen Club, a college league at North Island College, a restaurant, and pub league if there’s enough interest.

The leagues would be playing once a week throughout the winter season.

They say if you’re interested in the leagues, you can send an email to [email protected].
