BC NDP Candidate plans to help those in need in Courtenay-Comox

98.9 Jet FM/My Comox Valley Now is reaching out to all of the candidates in the October 19 provincial election to ask for their positions on the major issues.

NDP Candidate for the Courtenay-Comox Riding Ronna-Rae Leonard says when it comes to housing, the party has a number of initiatives coming down to help those in need.

“We are expanding BC Builds to make sure we work with the community to build affordable housing, including co-ops and rentals. There is a place where people can get support for paying rent when they are not able to make ends meet on a temporary basis and we’re talking about trying to expand secondary suites, providing that forgivable loan for affordable rental stock.”

For cost of living, she says they are looking at unfair practices and consumer protection laws for those in small businesses, and that they need to take a serious look at what can be done, along with working on expanding the $10 A Day Childcare Program.

Leonard adds they aim to help those affected by toxic drugs by expanding treatment to cut wait times, and to bring more teachers to the classroom.
