A mentoring program in the North Island is looking for more people to connect with young people.
The John Howard Society of North Island is seeking volunteers for the KidStart Mentoring Program in both the Campbell River and Comox Valley areas.
One KidStart mentor said being a role model has not only impacted their mentee’s life, but theirs as well.
“By empowering and encouraging my mentee, I have seen tremendous growth in where they feel comfortable and confident to voice their thoughts.”
KidStart has been around for nearly 20 years connecting adult mentors with young people aged six to 12 in need of extra support, aiming to increase their confidence through recreational activities.
The group has a long list of kids waiting to be matched with adults aged 19 or older, especially male mentors.
Mentors are provided training and support when they sign up and have an opportunity to connect with other mentors at numerous events.
Anyone interested in becoming a mentor is asked to contact either the Campbell River or Comox Valley Coordinator and their contact information can be found here.
