Kings Corner: October 25-27 Weekend

WEEK IN REVIEW

It wasn’t a weekend the Glacier Kings had hoped for, dropping contests on both Friday and Saturday night.

The team fell 4-2 on Friday, October 18 to the Lake Cowichan Kraken on the road, before returning home Saturday, October 19 to get shutout 3-0 on home ice to the Westshore Wolves.

Goalscoring has been an issue for the Glacier Kings the last few weeks, scoring just five goals in their past four games.

Head Coach Curtis Toneff said the team needs to break some habits developed in lower levels of hockey and get to the net more.

“There are some players that are definitely highly skilled, but they got to find a way to contribute with some maybe more uglier looking opportunities and there’s nothing wrong with those.”

FRIDAY OCTOBER 25 7:30 P.M. VS PENINSULA PANTHERS

The Glacier Kings start off the weekend on the road for a matchup against the red-hot Peninsula Panthers, who have lost just one game out of seven in the month of October.

The Panthers continue to clash with Westshore for top spot in the South Division, both sitting with 24 points, but Peninsula has played one less game thus far.

Despite last weekend’s results, Toneff thinks if the team plays like their performance last weekend, then they will be able to compete for a win.

“If we play similar to our game on Saturday without the puck and play with the puck more then we will be in the game.”

SATURDAY OCTOBER 26 7:45 P.M. VS VICTORIA COUGARS

The weekend concludes for the Glacier Kings Saturday night back on home ice again against a South Division team in the Victoria Cougars.

It will be the two teams’ first time matching up on the season, with both teams sitting with 14 points on the season and fourth place in their divisions.

It will be the Cougars second game in three nights, and a part of three games in four after defeating Saanich at home Thursday night and playing Port Alberni Sunday afternoon.

The two teams will meet again less than two weeks later, playing in Victoria on November 8.
