With final election results still being counted, and some re-counted, the BC NDP remain in the lead.
Elections BC is counting more than 66,000 mail-in ballots this weekend, which comes after a very close provincial election last Saturday.
While neither the BC NDP or the Conservatives won 47 seats for a majority government, the NDP hold 46 seats, the Conservatives have 45, and the Green Party walked away with 2.
According to Elections BC, the NDP maintain a close lead with 915,248 votes, with the Conservatives getting 892,427.
For the Juan De Fuca-Malahat and Surrey City Centre ridings, both needing full recounts, the NDP leads in both as of this morning.
They say NDP candidate Dana Lajeunesse has 9,181 votes in Juan De Fuca-Malahat, 106 more than Conservative Candidate Marina Sapozhnikov. For the Surrey riding, NDP’s Amnah Shah has 6,619 votes, beating Conservative Zeeshan Wahla’s 6,441 votes by a 178-vote difference.
For the ridings on Vancouver Island and Coast, here are the results as of today.
Courtenay-Comox still looks to have a new MLA as Conservative Brennan Day has 13,396 votes, 116 more than NDP incumbent Ronna-Rae Leonard’s 13,280. Leonard’s request for a recount was denied earlier by Elections BC.
In the Mid-Island Pacific Rim, NDP incumbent Josie Osborne looks to be re-elected with 13,590 votes, beating Conservative candidate Adam Hayduk, who has 11,142.
The North Island is still getting a Conservative MLA in Anna Kindy, who beat NDP incumbent Michele Babchuk with 13,839 votes. Babchuk got 13,068 votes.
NDP’s Randene Neill remains the winner in Powell River – Sunshine Coast as she holds 14,064 votes, while Conservative Chris Moore has 10,218.
For the two Nanaimo ridings, the NDP remain on top with George Anderson’s 14,614 votes in Nanaimo – Lantzville, and Sheila Malcomson’s 14,091 votes in Nanaimo – Gabriola Island. Conservative candidates Gwen O’Mahony and Dale Parker got 11,344 and 9,391 votes respectively for each riding.
Ladysmith – Oceanside also looks to be getting an NDP MLA, with Stephanie Higginson beating Independent incumbent Adam Walker with 13,431.
For the Cowichan Valley, Debra Toporowski is in the lead with 11,664.
Final results are expected to be posted Monday on Elections BC website.
