A nurse in Nanaimo received a week-long suspension this week after improperly accessing patient records.
The BC College of Nurses and Midwives announced the decision this week against Jordan Gerrard of Nanaimo. Without authorization, Gerrard accessed patient records between February and April of 2023.
According to the college, a panel of its Inquiry Committee approved a consent agreement with Gerrard, who has voluntarily agreed to a seven-day suspension of their nursing registration.
The college says nurses are only allowed to access personal and health information for purposes consistent with their professional responsibilities, and they are not permitted to access records of patients not in their care.
