One lucky family will get to see Taylor Swift live after winning a raffle from a Courtenay organization.
Earlier this month, Lake Trail Community Education Society held their Taylor Swift Raffle, with the goal of giving someone two tickets to see Swift live in her Vancouver Eras Tour.
The two tickets were donated by event organizer Sophia Vaillant, which led to the raffle taking place.
The society says they ended up raising $26,657 for free community programming and food security through the raffle and a Friendship Bracelet-Making Party.
Prince George resident Kathleen Strut won the tickets, saying when her name was announced, she couldn’t believe it.
“At first, I thought the message my friend sent me was just a funny video,” she said. “When I clicked the link and heard my name, I had to replay it three times because I was in shock!
“I started buzzing and called my partner right away—he’s still in shock. Once we got everything situated, I told Layla. Her mouth dropped open, she squealed, and then asked, ‘What am I going to wear?!’”
They say Strut entered the raffle with her partner Chris and daughter Layla in mind, who are big Swift fans, adding Chris has tried getting tickets for years.
The society says with this win, the whole family is looking forward to attending the concert.
Executive director of the society Anna Rambow says they are beyond grateful for all the support for the event.
“The funds raised will go directly toward our programs that build community and food security. This event has shown how generosity can create lasting impacts,” she says.
