At approximately 10:39 p.m. last night, August 11th, the Comox Valley RCMP responded to an incident in the downtown area of Courtenay, in the area behind Courtenay City Hall on the pathway. Upon arriving at the scene police located a 23 year old man suffering from serious injuries. BC Ambulance Service Paramedics rushed the man to St. Josephs General Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
While this investigation is in its early stages, investigators with the Comox Valley RCMP Major Crime section have made significant progress towards identifying those involved, and determining the cause of the injuries suffered by the deceased.
The Comox Valley General Duty, General Investigation Section and Forensic Identification Section continue to assist in this investigation. The family of the deceased continue to be notified at this time. His identity will not be released by police at this time.
Corporal Ken Simmons says a suspect has been arrested and this continues to be a very active investigation. No additional details will be released at this time.
