Comox Valley residents are invited to an exclusive look at an upcoming documentary.

Invisible Nation is a film yet to be released for wide distribution about the Taiwan struggling to preserve their democracy over the Chinese government.

The documentary highlights Taiwan’s first female president, Tsai Ing-Wen, and is meant to help spread awareness about the situation going on and how it could spiral downward in the future.

The screening is being hosted by the Comox Valley Multicultural Society and the Maple Pool Campsite.

Executive Director of the society, Jin Lin, is originally from Taiwan and hopes this film can highlight Taiwan’s importance to our everyday lives.

“I think it’s really important to let people know that yes, Taiwan is there, Taiwan is a country.”

Lin said the film is being shown selectively in North America before its release, and Courtenay will be just the second Canadian city to be shown the film, joining Vancouver.

Director General of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Vancouver Angel Liu will also be in attendance and will answer questions about the film after its conclusion.
