A class-action lawsuit against Airbnb can go ahead, the BC Supreme Court ruled on Thursday.
The suit, brought by plaintiff Margo Ware, alleges the company breached provincial consumer protection laws by offering travel agent and real estate brokerage services.
Justice Elizabeth McDonald says the lawsuit can go ahead on behalf of customers who paid fees or commissions when booking accommodations through Airbnb.
The lawsuit alleges the company is not licenced to provide those kinds of services, and will apply to anyone who made a reservation for accommodations in BC, except for American customers.

The company earlier called the lawsuit an abuse of process, but has not responded yet to the new ruling.
