WEEK IN REVIEW
It was another successful weekend for the Glacier Kings, extending their win streak to three games with a 3-2 overtime victory in Port Alberni Friday night and following it up with a 6-1 game against the Kerry Park Islanders at home Saturday.
Head Coach Curtis Toneff applauded his team’s effort over the two games, saying they played fast and physical early against Port Alberni.
Toneff said a couple of big saves and lucky crossbar bounces helped his team take down Kerry Park.
“From a fans value and just watching the game that was probably the best game of hockey I’ve seen since coming to Comox.”
WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 18 4-1 LOSS AGAINST OCEANSIDE GENERALS
The Glacier Kings started off their week with a rare Wednesday night game in Oceanside, dropping the contest 4-1.
The game was in reach for them up until the beginning of the third period, where they gave up two shorthanded goals early to seal their fate.
Heading into the game, Toneff said it was nice to have the Wednesday game on the schedule to help break up their week.
“We don’t have to go our four practices in a row, back-to-back, we get to play some hockey tonight, have a light practice tomorrow and play again then we get a little break.”
FRIDAY DECEMBER 20 7:30 P.M. VS PORT ALBERNI BOMBERS
The Glacier Kings get another test against the Bombers just a week after defeating them on their home ice in overtime.
The Bombers remain in second place in the North Division, slowly starting to fall further behind the leading Campbell River Storm who now hold a six-point lead over them.
Toneff said he hopes his team has been playing stronger of late because they are playing a strong two periods of hockey a game, something he wants to see happen over all three periods of a game to become a great team.
“The message will be to empty the tank a little bit for the guys heading into the final game and we talked a lot about rolling into Christmas break and it starts tonight.”
It will be the final game for the Glacier Kings in 2024, who won’t return to game action until January 3, 2025.
