Numerous storms expected to hit Vancouver Island over next few days

It will not be a white Christmas for Vancouver Island and instead be a stormy one.

A series of storms will develop this week affecting Vancouver Island and parts of the BC South Coast.

The storms start today with a low-pressure centre off the coast of BC bringing strong winds this afternoon.

Late evening winds in the Strait of Georgia and Strait of Juan De Fuca will have winds on East Vancouver Island in some parts gusting up to 100 kilometers per hour.

Coastal communities on West Vancouver Island may experience flooding due to a storm surge and the system is expected to be out of the area by Tuesday morning.

But it doesn’t stop there as Christmas Day will have a powerful frontal system arriving early in the morning, with very strong winds and heavy rain expected to last late into the evening.

And finally, a weaker low-pressure system will approach the Island late Thursday and cause strong winds over Vancouver Island and the south coast overnight.

Environment Canada said additional weather warnings will be issued, if necessary, as the storms grow and get closer.
