Forestry council’s new top boss served former premier as deputy

A former political insider is now in charge of the council representing most of BC’s lumber, pulp, paper, and value-added wood producers.

Kim Haakstad took on the role of president and CEO of the Council of Forest Industries last week. She has two decades of leadership in executive roles across government, industry, and stakeholder relations. That includes serving as Deputy Chief of Staff to former BC Premier Christy Clark.

In a statement, COFI’s Board of Directors says it is confident that her strategic insight, political acumen, and leadership skills will enable the council to continue championing the forest sector and build a resilient future for BC.
