The Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) is moving ahead with an alternative approval process (AAP) for two projects that need funding and two housing bylaw changes.
The AAP response period will begin on January 15 and end on February 18, with elector response forms being available on January 7.
Chief Administrative Officer James Warren said the AAP is designed to provide a more effective method of obtaining public approval.
“The goal of the unified approach is to streamline processes internally while saving taxpayer dollars seeking elector approval.”
The CVRD is looking to borrow an undisclosed amount of funding for a second artificial turf field, and $2,755,000 to build a new fire hall for the Union Bay Fire Protection Service.
They are also looking at changes to the Emergency Shelter and Supportive Housing Land Acquistion Service to the Comox Valley Housing Service and increase the maximum requisition for the Comox Valley Homelessness Supports Service.
The AAP gives eligible voters 30 days to submit an elector response form to oppose the proposal.
Ten per cent or more of eligible voters are required to oppose the proposal in the given time frame to make the board either abandon the project or go to a referendum.
