Liberals and Conservatives not focused on “making life better” for Canadians says Courtenay-Alberni MP

Courtenay-Alberni’s NDP MP has spoken out about the other political parties.

Following Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation Monday, Gord Johns released a statement over a Facebook post calling out the Liberals and Conservatives for being “corporate-controlled”.

Johns said neither are focused on making life better for everyday Canadians, calling corporate greed a key factor in the cost-of-living crisis.

“I will not be distracted in the weeks ahead from pursuing the interests of the people of Courtenay-Alberni, including the advancement of economic, environmental and social proposals and projects to support them as they face this cost-of-living crisis.”

Trudeau announced Monday he asked for Parliament to be prorogued until March 24, while also announcing plans to step down as the Prime Minister and Liberal party.

In a press conference, Trudeau said he will stay on until a new leader is selected as it became clear to him, he couldn’t be the best option in the upcoming election.

Johns said both parties continue to focus on serving their own political agendas and remain silent about profits from grocery stores, banks, oil and gas companies, and telecommunications sectors.

“Instead, they have bickered internal and engaged in shameful school-yard name calling in the House of Commons.”

Both Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre and NDP leader Jagmeet Singh reiterated their desire to trigger an early election following the announcement.

The next election is currently scheduled for October 20, 2025.
