GoFundMe campaign to support family after Mt Washington accident (corrected version)

Correction: The original story erroneously identified Levi as the father of the family. The story has been updated to remove that error.

A GoFundMe campaign is being held to support a Campbell River family following a skiing accident at Mount Washington.

The incident happened during the holiday break, when the Lewthwaite family were on a day trip to Mount Washington.

Organizer of the GoFundMe Mikayla Boyd says while riding up the mountain on a chair lift, Levi Lewthwaite fell 25 feet off the lift, breaking his back.

“We are still awaiting their next steps if that is to be surgery or a backcast,” said Mikayla.

“Either will be a long road of recovery.”

She says they don’t know whether Levi fainted or suffered a seizure before falling.

To help relieve the stress off the trips to Nanaimo or possibly Vancouver and the monthly bills, Boyd has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support the family.

So far, the Campbell River community has been able to raise $17,125, beating the original goal of $16,000.
