WEEK IN REVIEW
The Glacier Kings split their games last weekend, losing 5-3 on the road in Campbell River, before returning home to defeat Nanaimo in overtime 3-2.
The Storm held a 5-1 lead going into the third period, but the Glacier Kings attempted a comeback scoring twice before running out of time.
Head Coach Curtis Toneff said he didn’t like his team’s start Friday night in Campbell River, and things got away from them in the second.
“It was a strange flow of hockey in the second, I thought we actually played better in the second but sometimes pucks go in the net.”
They then were able to come back the next night and complete a come from behind win, scoring with less than five minutes left in regulation to tie the game, and score in overtime to take the extra point.
Toneff said he liked his team’s play in the third period and said they started to get desperate to get the win.
“I think that was an important win for us in a variety of ways, standings, team morale, confidence, believe, so hopefully we’re going to build on that.”
SATURDAY JANUARY 25 7:45 P.M. VS LAKE COWICHAN KRAKEN
The Glacier Kings only must focus on one game this weekend, as they host the Lake Cowichan Kraken Saturday night.
It may just be the team’s biggest game of the year so far, with the two tied in the standings heading into Friday night when the Kraken play the Buccaneers.
Toneff said they’ve had a good mix of practice and rest time this week and ie excited to get back to playing after what he called a quiet month in terms of game action.
“This time of year, you kind of just want to play I think if you’re a player and get into a bit of a rhythm and hopefully we can do that with three games in our next eight days.”
The Glacier Kings will hold two games in hand over the Kraken heading into Saturday night’s matchup, with both sides looking to take third place in the North Division and maintain a lead over fifth place Nanaimo who sits on the outside of the playoff picture by three points.
WEDNESDAY JANUARY 29 7:00 P.M. VS WESTSHORE
The Glacier Kings then wrap up the month of January with a rare Wednesday night game down in Westshore.
The two sides haven’t met since October 19, with the Wolves being able to shutout the Glacier Kings on home ice 3-0.
Toneff said he thought they played a good game then, and they’re a good team that will take a good road effort to defeat them.
“For us to solidify our place in the standings we have to win games like that and they’re a good hockey club and they’ll be ready to go and so will we.”
Westshore sits in third place in the South Division but only trails first place Peninsula by six points.
