The province is taking action to deal with ongoing traffic problems where Highway 4 passes through the world-famous Cathedral Grove on the way to Port Alberni.
In summer months, the parking lots on both sides of the highway are usually packed with tourists exploring the tall trees and walking trails. When lots are full, many people continue parking on the shoulders, despite warning signs.
Now, the province is installing concrete barriers on either side of the grove to physically stop people from parking illegally on the shoulders. The barriers will be installed over two nights, starting on Sunday, January 26 and Monday, January 27.
During the installation, single-lane-alternating traffic will be in effect from 7 p.m. until 5 a.m. both nights.
