Snowfall expected to make landfall this weekend across the Island and Coast

Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast are expected to see some white powdery stuff as soon as Friday evening.

Most of the region will see rain throughout the day, with a cold front expected to move across the region late this afternoon and into the early evening.

East Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast are expected to see a quick heavy snow burst along with the cold front, with temperatures falling near or below zero overnight causing slippery conditions from the wet ground.

Flurries and cold temperatures are expected to continue through the weekend, with visibility on roadways expected to be limited due to the flurries.

Snow accumulations are uncertain for the weekend and won’t be determined until it’s figured out where the flurries will develop.

Cold and dry air is expected to continue into next week over the South Coast due to a ridge of high pressure settling over the region.

Temperatures are expected to be five to eight degrees Celsius below the seasonal normal, with snow potential for the South Island up to Nanaimo early next week.
