Twenty King Charles III Coronation medals were presented to residents across Nanaimo Ladysmith in recognition for their contributions.
MP Lisa Marie Barron presented the medals for what she says individuals who made significant contributions to the community, and she says the medal is designed to the diverse role each person has played in the riding.
“From life-saving front line workers, to educators, advocates, volunteers and Indigenous knowledge keepers,” she says. “The diverse ways our nominees have contributed to our communities is impressive to say the least.”
Barron adds presenting the medals speaks volumes about the area and shows just how individuals are making an impact across the country.
“Everyday, Nanaimo-Ladysmith residents are making a positive impact locally, nationally and on the global stage,” she says. “Many of these individuals fly under the radar, so I’m hononoured to get to present these medals and celebrate the hardworking and deserving people in our area.”
Recipients include, Horst Backe, Captain Roger Bird, David Boyce, Joel Canfield, Susan Fisher, Terre Flower, William Good, Ron Gueulette, Jean-Michel Hanssens, Imogene Lim, Paul Manly, Rick Meyers, Kate Mosse, Lynn Redekopp, Tom Roden, Georgina Rosewall (posthumous), Lauren Semple, and Kerrie Vockeroth.
The medals are awarded to 30,000 Canadians across the country for their significant contributions to the community.
According to Barron, the medal is the first Canadian commemorative medal to mark a coronation.
