A youth council’s work has been recognized by the Comox Valley Chamber Awards.
The Town of Comox announced the Comox Youth Council won the #YouRock Award, an award celebrating youth leadership and initiative through contributions to the local community.
The council, who operate out of the Comox Community Centre, aims to empower youth by providing an inclusive space to connect, and give them chances to hone leadership skills while working in a team environment to put together community events.
Mayor Nicole Minions says this recognition shows the group’s dedication to building community.
“We couldn’t be prouder of their accomplishments, this is such a well-deserved award for this group of young leaders,” said Minions.
The town says the council’s work includes running the Halloween Haunted Hallway, family movie nights, and taking part in the Comox Business in Action Summer Fest.
They add the Youth Council’s next event will be the Comox Youth Art & Media Exhibit, taking place on February 28.
