Town council looks to consider the proposed 2025 budget in an upcoming council meeting.
In a release, the Town of Comox says staff will present the proposed budget to mayor and council. The budget will focus on investing in both renewing infrastructure and supporting programs and services.
This comes as staff have been developing data to better understand the infrastructure gap, which is about the need to fund and support the current work on facilities, roads, underground pipes, parks, trails, and sidewalks.
They say investing in their infrastructure is crucial for future sustainability.
“Well-maintained roads, parks, trails, and facilities are essential assets that deteriorate over time, requiring replacement or upkeep, especially for those constructed decades ago to ensure continued functionality for future generations,” said the Town.
$3.2 million needs to be invested per year to maintain current service levels, according to the Town.
For budget planning, council will use the 2022 to 2026 Strategic Plan as a guide for projects and deliverables they would like to achieve in the upcoming year.
The budget is part of Wednesday’s council meeting, set to start at 5:00 p.m.
