No significant damage or injuries are being reported after a small boat fire this morning in Courtenay.
Residents walking the Courtneay Airpark noticed the fire this morning and quickly contacted the Courtenay Fire Department who arrived quickly to contain the fire before it spread to other boats.
Fire Chief Kurt MacDonald said the fire appeared to have started after the electric motor failed causing it to ignite.
“The fire was contained to an electric winching system that appeared to be used in conjunction with the boat’s anchoring system.”
The boat’s owner was not in the area at the time of the fire, and it appears to be an isolated incident.
The size of the fire was very small, and the boat sustained minimal damage according to MacDonald.
