Battle of the Breweries to return next weekend

The fifth annual Battle of the Breweries is set for Courtenay this weekend.

This event sees craft breweries face off in curling games, where beer kegs will be curled on the ice at the Comox Valley Curling Centre to raise money for local organizations.

For this year, Ace Brewing, Beachfire Brewing, Cumberland Brewing Company, Hoyne Brewing Company, Land & Sea Brewing, Mount Arrowsmith Brewing Company and RAD Brewing are taking part, with all proceeds going to Tsolum River Restoration Society. The society aims to restore and maintain the Tsolum river watershed.

On social media, the Curling Centre says along with the games, those attending the event can also shoot beer kegs.

“For $5.00 you get two shots, anyone can try shooting a real beer keg down the ice,” said Comox Valley Curling Centre.

“Whoever gets their beer keg shot closest to the button (center of the curling rings) will win an amazing brewery gift pack with beer, apparel and an assortment of sudsy prizes.”

For the winning brewery, they will get a $500 advertising package from 98.9 Jet FM, who are presenting the event.

Admission is by donation, with the game starting 7:30 p.m. on March 22.
