With the Spring season approaching, drivers are encouraged to keep their winter tires on.
According to Road Safety at Work, weather at this time of year can be deceiving, with drivers possibly facing early morning frost, black ice in areas without much sunlight, late-winter storms, and road pooling and flooding from rain and melting snow.
Road Safety Program Director Trace Acres says while we’re anxious to jump into spring, there’s more work for winter tires to do.
“Getting yourself and your passengers home safe is always the priority,” said Acres.
“B.C. law requires winter tires on designated highways until at least March 31. Some routes require them until April 30. Regardless of the route, the best safety decision is to keep using winter tires until temperatures consistently stay above 7C.”
To stay safe, you are encouraged to check road and weather conditions on DriveBC before driving and to not drive if conditions are poor.
They say if you do need to go, make sure to adjust your driving to conditions, lower speed, and to maintain a four-second distance from other vehicles.
