BC Ferries announces route fares, food prices increasing in April

Ticket prices on some BC Ferries routes are increasing at the beginning of April.

The April 1 increase in fares is in line with a 3.2 per cent system-wide annual increase approved by the BC Ferries Commissioner.

Major routes drive up fares will increase by $0.90 for an adult and $7.60 for a standard vehicle, while minor routes will increase by $0.25-0.50 for an adult passenger and $0.70 to 2.00 for a standard vehicle.

The fares only apply to drive up rates, encouraging people to book in advance and travel during off-peak times to help balance demand and optimize capacity.

No-show fees on prepaid fares will increase from $5 to $10, with customers still able to change their sailing an hour before departure or cancel for or more days in advance for a $5 fee for routes between the Lower Mainland and Vancouver Island, Horseshoe Bay and the Sunshine Coast, and Comox and Powell River.

A 3.5 per cent increase will apply to food and beverage pricing as well with different changes on each item, including from $0.10 on a muffin to $0.90 for a BC burger combo.

Parking rates are also set to increase at select locations to align with market rates.
