One-way traffic coming to Comox Avenue mid-April

More traffic changes are coming to Comox, as Comox Avenue becomes one-way traffic this month.

The change comes because of scheduled construction on that avenue, with crews to perform sewer forcemain work, infrastructure upgrades for the town, bringing in new cement curbs and sidewalks, paving, and building two new roundabouts at Glacier View Drive and Rodello Street.

The Comox Valley Regional District says the work is part of the Sewer Conveyance Project and upgrades to Comox’s infrastructure, resulting in one-way traffic through the work zone 24 hours a day.

“The public is advised that one or more sections of Comox Avenue from Rodello Street to Glacier View Drive could become one-way at short notice and to plan for the potential of one-way westbound traffic in this area,” said the regional district.

“Detour signs will be up for residents who reside within construction zones or will be impacted by the construction. Drivers are advised to add extra time to their commutes, watch for detour signage, and follow posted speed limits. Businesses on Comox Avenue are open during construction. Construction is subject to suitable weather conditions or other possible construction-related delays.”

They say traffic will flow west through the avenue to Glacier View Drive. Two-way bike and pedestrian traffic is possible for that avenue while crews work.

The work will run Monday to Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the change in effect starting April 14.
