A coalition of nearly 150 people is calling on people in the North Island – Powell River voting district to strategically cast their ballots for the NDP to block the Conservatives.
The letter is signed by community members, organizations, and Indigenous leaders across the riding, calling on voters to reject Conservative candidate Aaron Gunn and his “hate-filled views toward Indigenous peoples.”
Former provincial MLA Green Party candidate Arzeena Hamir is one of the people who signed the letter and said voting with the NDP is how to protect what we love.
“This election, the clear ABC – Anyone but Conservative – vote is with Tanille Johnston and the NDP.”
The letter follows a social media post on April 9, 2025, from Liberal candidate Jennifer Lash, encouraging voters to strategically vote for the Liberals and dump the NDP from their ballots.
The letter said whether you’re voting to stop the Conservatives or elect a Liberal government, voting NDP locally is the best way to support that outcome.
In a statement, Aaron Gunn said only a Conservative government can help bring back common sense to Ottawa.
“Together, the Liberals and NDP have doubled our national debt, doubled housing costs, flooded our streets with dangerous drugs, and allowed repeat, violet offenders to walk free.”
According to 338Canada, the Conservatives are expected to win the riding with 48 per cent of the vote, while the NDP and Liberals are projected to receive 24 and 21 per cent of the vote respectively.
