You can help take out the trash in Courtenay by joining this year’s spring-clean up event.
The annual event sees volunteers pick up trash in the area around Courtenay Airpark, with the goal of keeping debris out of the estuary and ocean.
The City says if garbage and debris doesn’t get removed from urban and natural environments, they can get washed into storm drains, creeks, and waterways.
They say volunteers will meet at the Airpark adjacent to Rotary Sky Park Playground for a safety orientation, where City staff will give them trash pickers/grabbers, bags, and gloves to use.
The event is set for April 26, running from 10:00 a.m. to noon.
