The Ferry Commissioner has confirmed a 1.9 per cent, per year, price cap for BC Ferries fares from 2016 to 2020.
The confirmation follows the Commissioner’s review of the new contract between the province and the ferry company, and public input.
Gord Macatee says he heard from both ferry users and local governments in ferry dependent communities… and there were a couple of common themes.
But, Macatee says he doesn’t have the authority to roll back the fares, and keeping future increases in line with inflation will help affordability.

He also says that although traffic is rebounding it’s too early to say if the trend will hold long enough to use it to set the price cap.
