On Wednesday and Thursday, August 6 and 7, 2014, the City of Courtenay will be working on road improvements and paving along Fitzgerald Avenue between 21st Street and 26th Street. The work is anticipated to take two days, weather permitting; in the event of inclement weather, paving will proceed on the next viable day.
On construction days, Fitzgerald Avenue will be subject to intermittent lane closures and single-lane alternating traffic from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm.
There will be noise generated by the crew and equipment during construction. The City apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this project.
Parking in the construction zone will be temporarily restricted; any vehicles left parked on Fitzgerald Avenue in the construction area will need to be towed. Area residents are being notified.
All efforts will be made to maintain vehicle access to local residences, although there may be times when road closures are necessary.
Sidewalks will remain open to permit pedestrian access.
Commuters should expect delays in the area of construction; the City recommends alternative routes be used whenever possible. Commuters are requested to use caution and obey traffic personnel and posted traffic signs.
During construction, bus stops along Fitzgerald Avenue will be accessible; traffic control personnel will be on hand to assist transit users when required.
City crews will assist with garbage pick-up for residents in the work zone on Wednesday, August 6 should curbside pick-up fall during the scheduled construction time.
This project will not affect the bike lanes installed on another section of Fitzgerald earlier this year.
