Well you would think by now local pet owners would get the message loud and clear…don’t leave your four-legged friends in a hot vehicle and then walk away to do some shopping. But that is exactly what is happening in the Comox Valley on a daily basis, says Comox Valley SPCA Assistant Manager Emily Priestly.
Priestly says calls from concerned residents on overheated pets trapped in vehicles are coming in to both the SPCA and RCMP, and local Mounties have been responding to numerous calls.
With Environment Canada forecasting a very lengthy stretch of warm, dry weather in the valley for the next few weeks, at least straight through into mid August, pet owners are being encouraged to simply leave their pets at home while out and about in the area behind the wheel.
Local RCMP also confirm they have been fielding numerous calls from concerned residents.
