A horrifying moment for a Powell River resident this morning.
A man was out for a walk with his dog at approximately 5:30 in the the 4700 block of Redonda Ave. when he was confronted by a black bear, according to Powell River RCMP Constable Tim Kenning.
Kenning says after the man yelled and called for help, he scared the bear away and a witness who heard the commotion says they saw the bear and two cubs take off.
Kenning says a Conservation Officer responded to the incident, and has now taken over the investigation. He adds this is a harsh reminder for residents to do their part in preventing further incidents by keeping garbage in a secured place, and to be diligent in cleaning up around fruit and nut trees when they are ripe.
Fortunately RCMP report no major injuries in the attack.
