The Government of Canada has provided multi-year funding of $93,800 for the City of Courtenay’s centennial celebrations.
The City will receive $37,000 in 2014–2015 and $56,800 in 2015–2016 through the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program.
The Honourable John Duncan, Minister of State and Member of Parliament (Vancouver Island North), made the announcement on behalf of the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages.
Minister of State Duncan was joined by the Honourable Kevin Sorenson, Minister of State (Finance).

- Centennial celebrations will take place throughout the year from January 1 to December 31, 2015.
- Activities will include a theatrical performance, an arts and heritage festival, music and dance performances, heritage displays and presentations, and a celebration of Aboriginal arts and culture.
- The Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program provides Canadians with more opportunities to take part in activities that present local arts and culture and celebrate local history and heritage.
